I had red crust all over my body and I was itching all the time when I was an infant and a newborn. The problem never went away by itself. Most of the year I had severe outbreaks, very short periods of remissions.I went to different doctors, but always got the same treatment: antihistamine pills and corticosteroid creams. I went to allergists, dermatologists, and gastroenterologists. I saw doctors in my city Ufa in Russia, also in Moscow and in Los Angeles, USA, where I moved when I was 22. Everybody prescribed me the same things. Antihistamine pills and corticosteroid creams. I always knew those medications have serous side effects. I stayed away from those pharmaceuticals as much as I could. I only use them when I had extreme exacerbations.Some doctors told me that it is possible to identify triggers of the eczema. They would give me a list of common allergies. That list would include about 20 items. That list of common allergens was more misleading for me then helpful, and you will see why in a minute. That list included strawberries, oranges, tomatoes, citrus fruits, fish, nuts, and few other items. For years I try to avoid those products. Later I found out that none of those products causes my eczema. In reality the triggers are unique for every person. I learned that through my experience, and later when I started doing my research. It took me three decades of my life to find that out. First I'm going to tell you what are my triggers and then I'm going to show how you can identify yours. It's a complicated process that will take some time. Once you find out what are your triggers that causes your eczema you will be able to be eczema free. So all the efforts are so worth it. Right now I know my triggers and its a daily task to make sure I avoid them.First of all, what's important to know is that is that the reaction on the skin might appear between few minutes to too few hours, or even few days after eating or being in contact with your triggers. Secondly, it is important to know that the reaction may last few weeks and even few months after eating that food. When I say several months it sounds hard to believe in. But that's documented fact and that I personally experienced it. The prolonged reaction is caused by large amount of the trigger food.That is why people often feel powerless when they have eczema. Because it's so hard to see the connection between the foods you ate several weeks ago and that skin rash that you keep on having. To make it even more complicated the reaction may be from a single ingredient in the food. You might be okay to eat home made chicken soup, but the same soup from a fast food restaurant causes flare-ups. It is because in a restaurant they added a lot of other ingredients. Another important part is that this is not a true allergy. The mechanism is different. There are allergy tests, such as skin prick test. Those tests will NOT show that you are allergic to many foods that you DO have reaction to. Because those chemical involved in true allergy are not released (example of true allergy is peanut allergy, when a person gets immediate symptoms). Eczema is caused not by true allergy, but by food intolerance or food sensitivity. The only way to find out that what foods cause your body to have eczema is through elimination diet. That is when you eliminate a specific food and then eat it and see if there's a reaction. That is what this book will show you.
